Light of Hope is our traditional community fundraiser that has historically hosted over 400 people. We partner with the CAPstone Child Advocacy Center for this Scottsbluff/Gering Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours Event! The event is hosted at the Gering Civic Center from 5:00-7:00 PM with the fundraiser. The speaker will start at 5:30 PM, so if you don’t get off of work until 5, you can still join us! CASA and CAPstone are both nonprofit organizations and depend on grants and private donations. We appreciate the continued support and encouragement we received from businesses and individuals in our area.
Our speaker this year is Nicole Abbott, Nebraska CASA Champion and former foster youth. Her experience being removed from her childhood home and having multiple placements was very traumatizing. With the support of her CASA and other advocates, Nicole rose above challenges and today is thriving at Bellevue University. Nicole recently won the title of Miss Nebraska U.S. International and competed at Miss U.S. International. We look forward to welcoming Nicole to our community for the event and hearing her story! UPDATE 8/30: Nicole will be presenting virtually. We are so thankful that even though circumstances have changed, that she is still willing to share her story with us!
Due to a recent increase in COVID-19 cases, we are taking precautions for the in-person event and have also opted to provide a virtual option (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85219865125) for people to participate and hear our speaker’s story. The event booklet is available online as well. At the in-person event, we will have tables spaced further apart from each other, hand sanitizer will be available, and hors d’oeuvres will be served by committee members rather than individual attendees. Attendees are also welcome, but not required, to wear a mask. If you are not feeling well, we ask that you please stay home and participate virtually instead. Please contact Monica at CAPstone (308) 632-7274 to reserve a seat. The event will be recorded and will be available on CAPstone and CASA Facebook pages for viewing after the event. Even if you are unable to attend in person, we would greatly appreciate your consideration of making a donation. Donations can be made by check, cash, or at the “donate” link below. All proceeds are split evenly between the two organizations.
